i had one of each of those as well.  (i still own 3 sansui's - a stock tu717, a refurb'd modded tu-x1 and a mint almost nos rare fm-8 tubed mono w/mpx out.)  the sansui's sound fantastic - as did the tu719.  the mac was one of the most mediocre sounding tunas i have ever had in my system.  almost as bad as the refurb'd mr77 i also was happy to sell!

I would agree with your assessment the Mac wasn't that impressive of a tuner and I had no problem selling it. I only recently sold the Sansui and only because I just wasn't using it anymore. I never used the tuners for critical listening and with the advent of internet radio with NO or very few commercials I've gone that direction.

most of my listening - critical or otherwise - is fm.  it's amazing how good a truly fine sounding tuna properly set up can sound.  if you saw my earlier post, you will see what is still in use in my rig presently.  nice jazz on wpfw tonight.  i usually swap out tunas every coupla months; this one's sound is stellar, w/m studio-12 mpx decoder...

I would think so  :thumb: I never owned a pair but so far they sound way better than I expected.
I had a pair of Lafayette Criterion's that I wish I had back.

Recently added a Pioneer CT-F750 cassette deck to my vintage goodies.
Refurbished by one of our very own. Sitting on top of a Scott 460A integrated amp.

The Vintage System for my equally vintage wife is done!
Not pictured is a Hafler XL280 which runs the MMGs and the other speakers: Magnepan CC5 and SVS sub.

Sherwood S2100-II tuner, art di/o dac, BillD modified Carver C1 preamp, Oppo 971, APC H15, Carver TD-1700 cassette deck, Bryston 3B Pro.
It looks like I can do some shelf rearrangement to tidy things up a bit and gain some additional storage space.
My project for the day!

Telefunken Opus 7…. On in the morning, off at night and for 26 years nary a hiccup.

Nine tubes, six speakers and a most glorious sound……

Here's my Sansui TU-9900 tuner.  It's been sitting in the closet for the last few years, so today I decided to rotate it back into the system.  It looks great, sounds great, and picks up more stations than what I'd been listening to previously.  I don't know why it took me so long to do this.

Hey!

Wow! Gary, that's one hell of a tuner you've got there.  :o I have a baby Sansui tuner here, the TU-317 of which I rarely use.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

most beautiful tuna ever?  certainly in the running.  the only reason i sold mine, is cuz i have this:

sometimes i think i sold the wrong one, if only for looks.  sonically the one is kept is only marginally better...
