Can't get more C&C than this!

Not quite sure why people put stuff like this nice rack out on the street (with a free sign on it) but I'll take it!  :thumb: (My first stereo cabinet - they've always sat on top of a table.)

I don't think all that gear came with the stand, or did it?

No just the cabinet. (Modified original sentence.)

The equipment wasn't free but still C&C - or close to the cheap guidelines. Bought used - though my friend gave me the Sony CD player.

Sweeeet.  Looks like it's in nice shape.  What goes on the bottom shelf?

It always amazes me the gems that can be found free or nearly free. Good one! :thumb:

Last year, when I was in Montreal, Canada
and while walking around the city
I saw so many nice things on the sidewalk with signs
'' Free, take it ! '' I was wondering why people throw away good stuff.
Like big TV set, nice bookshelves, still good computer chair, mint condition computer desk,
VHS player, baby stroller and much, much more.

I'm just using it as a place to keep my Pioneer AVR.

There is some veneer peeling off in a bottom corner but otherwise it's in great shape.

Because it's much more convenient to do that than to make the effort to get rid of it or to sell it. With things like CR TV's and VHS players, even thrift shops won't accept them anymore because no one wants to buy them.

Thanks for nice comments.

Reminds me way too much of childhood; furniture we had and I don't like. But at least it's cat proof right?! My DIY rack is not, but I don't have cats!

Well then, I won't ask you to move into the room. Cat-proof? A smart cat could figure out how to open the doors by pressing hard on the center of the glass doors. Nothing is cat proof to a smart cat!

I don't know what kind of cats you have but they should be eliminated before its planet of the cats!

BTW do you have a SurgeX just for a lamp? I'm not even that decedent  :o

Uh yeah, the lamp is plugged into the SurgeX to eliminate flicker while the stereo is plugged into the wall!

I have a simple audio system (MacBook Air, DSPeaker DAC/pre/DSP with linear power supply, mono-blocks, and speakers) in a dedicated 13ft x 21ft x 8ft study (audio in the front, office in the back).  Last year moved the DSPeaker/power supply and mono-blocks from an Ikea nightstand to a leftover piece of shelving (43" x 12") that sits about 3 feet from the front wall in my private study: cheap, simple, removes the gear from a low frequency room pressure node (intersection of wall/floor), and allows the soundstage to fill the entire front of the room.  It also allows for really good cable layout and easy access to make connections.  At a recent audio club meeting the room efficiently accommodated 7 pair of speakers plus guests.  Swap outs of speakers (including a pair of active monitors) took just seconds.

Designed for record albums. I know as I stuck one of those out on the curb with a "free" sign about ten years ago. :thumb:

There's a System link just under my profile.

I thought it had all the equipment in it when you found it (like from a pissed-off wife or something) LOL

Except in that scenario it wouldn't likely be in "near pristine" condition, but more likely "thrown", "dropped", "bounced" or "rolled" condition!

Probably the King of Finds of Free Stuff:

My brother and his work partner were taking a truckload to the dump, years ago, and they found a mint condition Hammond A100 organ. They of course returned with it, having had to pay four workers at the dump to help them get the 450 pound music monster into the truck.
