I'd sure like to hear that - and live that close to the water!

I would be curious as to how it would sound with those perforated sheet metal pieces around back removed, if that were possible/feasible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give them a try with the rear covers removed.

Yes, try removing those covers. With them in place, I can't believe your getting a true open baffle experience. The back wave needs to be released. You may however, lose some low end.

I wasn't expecting an improvement. To be honest I didn't think it was possible.
But Wow! They were already amazing speakers but now they are truly jaw dropping.
Bass is as good as before if not better. I'm glad I just got them because I would
have hated to listen with the backs on for a long time.

This is the cotton weave they used.

Now they're free to breathe! They look quite old. I'm glad that you're enjoying them. Now to build some purdy baffles.

Here you can see pictures of the successors of those Eckmiller drivers:

http://www.german-vintage-loudspeakers.com/navid.602/schulz-studiokombination-th-315-1-a.htm

The TH 315 / 1 also came as O18.

The very first of the Eckmiller coaxial drivers was the O15 with field coils (there was also a perma magnet version) - one of the rarest drivers on this planet by now.

tom1356: you are quite right using OBs! Although the Eckmiller/Schulz were originally designed to play in fairly large BR enclosures (as far as I am informed there used to be standard boxes between 130 - 180 litres), they sound stunning in OBs.

Hello mudshark,
Thank you for the information. If you come across any specifics about the original cabinet or anything else related to the O series I would love to have more details.
It would be great to trade up to the F.C. O15, but I can't seem to find any.
The O16 is a remarkable driver.
One of then was occasionally distorting due to some iron filings in the gap.
I just finished the repair and it is really nice to be listening to them again.
Regards
Tom

Gentlemen,

please note and sorry to say that this is not an Eckmiller loudspeaker.
It is an East German studio loudspeaker made by Schulz.

This is nothing about quality, but it is a completely different system
compared to the various incarnations of the Eckmiller drivers.

(Moderator : I am the one who sold these speakers to the US years sgo.
On my homepage klangfilm.org you are able to see pics of true Eckmiller
speakers.)
