Song3 - Accuton version - in curly walnut - SOLD
« on: 4 Apr 2017, 08:14 pm »
About six months ago, a customer asked if we could do a version of the Song3 using the same Accuton midrange as used in our SoundScape 8's.  So naturally we did. The result is a Song3 with even more detail in the midrange.

This version has been in production for about 4 months now, but we have not, as of yet, put it on our web site.  Why?  Because we intend to "launch" it at the AXPONA audio show in Chicago on the 21st of April.  So we will add it to our web site soon.

A customer ordered this pair and then had a "life event."  So we refunded his deposit.  But since the cabinets were well underway at that point, we went ahead and finished them.  They are now available.

Here are some pictures...

And a closeup...

The finish on this pair is curly walnut with walnut hardwood trim.  The final finish is satin lacquer.

The Song3-A (Accuton) is priced at $3695 per pair.  This pair is available now and is packed and ready to go.

Hi,

I'm new to this group and this is my first post/reply.

Those are beautiful speakers!!    It looks like they are front ported.  Can you tell me how these would do in a situation where they would need to be within a foot from the back wall and within 18 inches from the side walls?  The room is roughly 12 X 18 but it opens up to a much larger space on two sides.

Hi,

The front slot port on this design was chosen for exactly your type of setup.  It should work just fine with placement 1 foot from the rear of the speakers to the rear wall.

With 18" to the side walls, they would work as well.  But you would really benefit from acoustic panels (can be made to look like artwork) at the first reflection points on the side walls.

To determine where these points are, simply sit in the listening position and have someone run a mirror across the side walls.  When you see a reflection of the speakers in the mirror, that is a first reflection point.  Place an acoustic panel in those positions and the sound will improve quite a bit.

That situation has nothing to do with speakers, but deals with the fact that reflections that arrive very close in time to the sound coming directly from the speakers will be interpreted by your sense of hearing as being part of the source.  So you have direct sound and reflected sound both being interpreted as the source.  Later reflections off of surfaces like the wall on the opposite side of the room are not a problem since your sense of hearing will interpret those later arriving sounds as room reverb and not the source of sound.

The bottom line is that these speakers will work very well in your situation, but even better if you kill those first reflections.

Beautiful speakers Jim!

Not surprised they sold so quickly.
