I've read the Volk-OB thread through last week and was inspired to purchase some monacors.. Thanks Scorpion

On searching... these came up

http://monacor.co.uk/products/speakerbuilding-hifi6-9/vnr/105370/

I've just purchased 4 from ebay at a bit of a bargain (£7.50 each inc postage) ..so with a slightly lower FR being 8 inch they should blend with the H baffle sub (TBD) a little better maybe... the effciency is a little higher also ...so only one may be needed but we'll see where the design goes :)

How fun...  My first DIY speaker project.

Question is how with it compare to my Naim Chrome bumper active system 250's with SBL's?

How do you plan to use these? Two per side in series?

Yes one above the other. one forward facing one rear facing. hopefully with the drivers/cones aligned, they seem to be front mount based on the photos I'll see when the drivers arrive.

With some kind of rear magnet mount or constraint but also baffle mounted too like a clamp system.

Depending on the sensitivity depends on what I do with the bass... I did plan to use A&D bass drivers as and when I have sorted out the upper part and how sensitive they are. As the drivers were £7.50 each including shipping I didn't want a huge expense... there are some 12 inch drivers from Monacor for £26 each here:

http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=MON104000&browsemode=manufacturer

Not sure how they compare to the A&D drivers though

I have a pair of Ion Obelisks amplifiers (3 and a 3X/XPAC1 both have pre in and power in (in the integrated amps) which I intent to use for active duty for 100Hz>full range and below 100Hz

In addition I was reading the driver improvement thread here last night >
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/119676-enabl-listening-impressions-techniques-2.html

And a thread about using a T transformer in the bass circuit to boost the level with a resonance, not fully understood it yet...

My background is sound and vibration engineering so should be fun

Well today I sourced the bass drive units and if they are ok the budget element of the project will be sorted :)

I just got this 4x12 cabinet off ebay and now need to just go collect it/pay for it...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190666983552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Are the eminence Beta 12's ok for OB? £90 for 4 seems a good deal... I assume they are like the alpha's but a little better (seem more sensitive from the specs I found online and suggest a lower frequency).

Now is there an easy way to got active cross over just the bass and run the twin monacors Full range?

I have two amplifiers quite similar Ion Obelisk 3 and 3X/XPAC1 and was planning on running one as a pre/power and one as just a power amp.
