Mac and NuPrime DAC - PCM to DSD256
« on: 4 Mar 2017, 12:55 am »
Hi Jason,

I'm upsampling Tidal streams using Audirvana Plus on a Mac to your absolutely fabulous IDA-16 but as you know, the limit due to the Mac via DoP is DSD128. Any possibility of NuPrime creating a driver similar to an "exaSound Core Audio DoP256 driver" for NuPrime DACs to enable PCM to DSD256 using a Mac?

Thanks very much,
David Young

This is not a driver issue. The DAC in IDA-16 can decode up to 384kHz. To have DoP256, that means it has to decode 768kHz.
Unless you are listening to DSD256 file, up sampling it to this freq doesn't really change the sound quality, DSD128 will do just fine.
We would have to release a custom driver for Mac that is similar to Windows driver that send native DSD256 instead of encoding as DoP.
I can't say for sure if this is doable. We have to discuss with the driver/chipset company.
