Any of the Superphon Revelations will be very hard to beat, and they're not expensive....IF you can find one.

my Aragon Arum ,lol. or an old Spectral that I loved the sound of,was nice airy in the highs.Kline made a nice mc phono amp I heard sounded very nice.

Since I got (re-)addicted to audio a few weeks ago, I've spent tons of time online just looking at stuff.  Listening to jazz through my slowly-improving setup at home, mind you. 

Anyway, the point is that by chance I was looking at old Accuphase components and discovered the C-200 which several people called out as possibly the best preamp ever created.  Pretty high praise, though mind you I have no idea if it could be true.
