Tube substitution question
« on: 16 Feb 2018, 04:42 pm »
Can I use a RCA UY 227 in place of a RCA 80 rectifier in my low-powered tube amp?  Thank you

Have you asked the manufacturer?

I would say no.

See this from the Tube Data Sheet Locator
http://tdsl.duncanamps.com/show.php?des=80

These are the tubes listed.
CV1708, CV617, UX280, VT80

You can not, the filaments and pins are not the same:
227 filament is 2.5V / 1.75A, base 5 pins.
80 filament is 5V / 2A, base 4 pins.

According the subs book 80 identicals are: R80 EX680 UX280 VT-80 KX80 80G 280 RGN380 V580  180 ER80 113A 480 P280 RE-1 CX380 NX280 G-80 PH280 KX-280 110E/59 1560-UX CL-80 C-280 AC80 PM280 PU080 ER280 MX280 X-280 CV1708 V510 VT159-GPO 680 PR280

Thanks again, I'll have to procure a copy.  I do have an original RCA RC-10 Receiving Tube Manual and an old Sam's Tube Substitution book but everything is packed for the move.

Oops...it out of print and they have none.  :(
