Adding a remote control to my DAC
« on: 5 Nov 2010, 08:13 pm »
I have an Eastern Electric Minimax Tube DAC, and am going to add a remote control to it. It currently has an Alps Blue Velvet volume control. My question is, do you think I would gain any sound quality advantage by switching this out for a Goldpoint attenuator ?

Thanks

Hello!

I think most would agree that a stepped attenuator like the Goldpoint would be better than the Alps - although maybe a harder question is if it would be worth the $ for you personally. As a guy who lives and breathes volume controls (liking Dave Slagles Autoformers best) I'd say get the best you can in there!

BTW - If this is the unit:

It is a nice looking design that would be great value I think - but the space right behind the pot does not look like enough to fit any remote type (ALPS or a goldpoint with a stepper kit). It seems the pcb is notched out and anything deeper would hit the pcb? You may have another plan or maybe the dac is not the same as this one - sorry for the false alarm if that is the case!

Thansk!
