The owner replaced a pair of Sound Lab's with these and he absolutely loves them. :thumb:

Are these the ones that Danny took to RMAF last year? Did you build them Ruben? In positioning them, like 'regular' LS9s, the planar tweeters are normally on the outside. Anyway, I'm sure the owner is happy with them, they sure sounded great to me at RMAF.

Hey Buzz,

No. Those were built by Mockingbird Distribution.

Here's that pair.

Best,

Ruben

Are these the GR version of the Mockingbirds or are these a completely different speaker?

Wow. I'd love to get a wife-friendly "monitor" version of those. Maybe an LS-3???   :)

Wife friendly indeed. Mine took one look at the LS-X's and told me in no uncertain terms the only way I would ever be allowed to have something like that in the house is if I were building it for somebody else  :( bummer

Beautiful Reuben - Absolutely beautiful!

Can't wait to hear more.

Also wondering if they should be swapped L/R?

Wondered exactly the same thing... don't  the wings normally   go to the inside  or is it room  dependant ?

Yep, looks like he has the left and right speakers reversed.

I still have the pair that went to RMAF. I need to make someone a deal on them and give them a good home. The woofers in them were built just for this application. They are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard.

This one is an LS-9 kit built using an open baffle. Not ideal woofers for the application, but all things considered they should work out pretty well.

Danny - care to comment how they compare to a regular LS-9 (I am assuming you have heard them since I'm sure crossover changes were req'd)?

Ever thought of offering a "conversion kit" to take existing LS-6 / LS-9 owners to an open baffle configuration?

Danny, wouldn't the rear output of the drivers be out of phase with the Neo panels?  Would something like that have a big effect on SQ?  I am assuming that phase issues are why you don't sell OB5 and OB7 kits with open back neo 3 tweeters.

They are still in phase front to back. The crossover point is very low though at only 850Hz. So the difference in offset is about 18 degrees of phase rotation. Not bad.

If I did that with the OB-7 and it's higher crossover point then the offset at that wavelength would be about 55 degrees of phase rotation. That wouldn't work out too well. That will make a bit of a hole in the response.

Time to work Neo 10's into the OB-5 & OB-7. That should clear up the phase shift, but increase the cost a bit.
Crazy resolution in the mids though :thumb:

That sounds kind of like the Super-7's.  :D
