I remember seeing him and His Hot Licks at The Old Mill Tavern, Mill Valley, CA. Jerry Garcia sat in and IIRC  it wasn't particularly crowded. :scratch:

I remember the impact of "Canned Music".  The sound of sinuous harmony with no drum forcing a beat was mesmerizing at the time.  I think I'll go find my copy now...

He was a one of a kind and way ahead of his time, I think.

Sid Page posts (5 years ago) in this old video from 1972 where the Hot Licks were considered so unusual that the  director didn't know how to treat them, so he added laugh tracks (ouch!):
