We are testing a 1000W mono amp.  Two issues, it might require a 20 amp AC line circuit (one per channel) and it is a bit heavy for me to pick up.  :)

Sound? Spectacular!

Wow Frank!!!!!!!!!

Gotta be solid state, or maybe hybrid. Even with Frank being the champion of giving us "champaign on a beer budget", 1000 tube watts just might be outta reach. 8)

Actually we can do it with either our Synergy solid state or Fet Valve hybrid tube circuits.  We have versions of both running right now.

I probably will bring the prototypes to the Minnesota Audio Society meeting on September 15th.

Will use our ABX Comparator to test against any other amps members want to bring in.

Will be fun seeing if I can turn their house Magnapan 1.6 speakers into confetti.  :)

The 1.6's can handle the power as  long as it is clean.

1 kW Fet Valve Monoblocks? That's awesome, Frank. What's the tube compliment?

As long as it's a mono amp, not a monoblock, I'm interested!

How are they different?

"Monoblock" is a marketing gimmick invented by some "high end" manufacturers in order to convey a sense of great mass and expense for their monaural amps, since "mono" conveyed obsolescence in the post stereo era.  It has no intrinsic meaning and is testament to the Golden Age of BS we live in.

No, its a description for an amplifier of one channel, mounted in one chassis. They usually feature significantly more power then their "stereo" cousins, because they have only one mission to complete. That being the amplification of one, singular channel.

Mono blocks generally have separate power supplies too.

That is exactly the definition of a mono amp.  The Dynamo Mark III (60 watts/channel) and Mark VI (120 watts/channel) were called "mono" amps, with power per channel exceeding the Stereo 70.  "Monoblock" is a ripoff of a term used for the common window air conditioner (compressor and evaporator in one housing), by Krell and their ilk.

Very, very few of the amps sold as "monoblocks" for the last 30 years have had separate power supplies.
