Title: USB card for Lampi
Post by: extracampine on 22 Jul 2017, 07:30 pm
I'm considering a Lampi Atlantic or Golden Atlantic and plan to supply data via USB connection from Windows PC. Is there merit in using a special USB card such as the SOTM, or is this a waste of money? Thanks

On the Windows PC?
Yes. better card, better sound. However, it may be cheaper to use a stock PC and buy a Micro-Rendu to put between the PC and the Dac. Given that the latest Amanero firmware now allows for DSD512 via Linux, there are no more speed limits. Make sure to get a superclock on the Amanero!

Thanks for your reply wisnon. You mention a method that may be cheaper - but I already invested in an audio playback PC around a year ago. Still worth going for the MicroRendu? What about some of the SOTM streaming products?

Yes, some say the SoTM sms200 is even better.

What I meant is that if your PC is not already tweaked out for low noise,m it may be better and cheaper to go for the device that isolates it from the Dac like a uRendu or SoTM.

Do you mean superclock on the Atlantic?

Amenero is the USB interface on all Lampis (Atlantic included).

You've got the superclock upgrade on the amanero in your Golden Atlantic.   :thumb:

Want to save some money and still get excellent sound? Get the Paul Pang USB card and an Acopian 5v 2amp linear power supply from eBay:

Next, get a TeraDac U9 power supply for the SSD in your audio computer.

Next, pick up a J Maxwell USB cable: http://www.jmaxwellusb.com/
Our Tucson Audiophile Group did a USB cable shootout from cheap (Straightwire) to expensive and the J Maxwell beat them all.

Plus, I tried all those USB filter dongles like the Jitterbug and the many other variations (kludges) that have appeared. My buddies in the audiophile group loved them in their systems, loaned them to me and I told them the filters destroyed the sound. They must have thought I was nuts but when they finally cleaned up their power supplies they agreed with me and nobody uses the filters anymore.
