Cherry monoblocks
« on: 4 Oct 2010, 01:12 am »
Well, I finally took the plunge into Class D by purchasing a pair of Cherry monoblocks (yes, you heard that right). I believe they're the first monoblocks Tommy built. I should receive them in a week or so.
The problem is my speakers won't arrive for about a month (bummer with a capital "B").
So all I'll be able to do is look at the amps for a few weeks. Such is life. :duh:

Legacy Whisper XD's. The Cherries will only operate above 300 hz since the speakers come with 1,000 watts for the woofers.

The monoblocks are now ready for sale, but they are not on our web site yet, and there's a lead time on orders...  If you're interested, email direct to support@DigitalAmp.com.  Thanks.

what are the basic specs of the monoblocks?

I'll share the information I got from Tommy.

"Spec wise, the monos are just about identical to one channel of a Cherry PLUS.  Power gets close to 800W into 4 ohms, and more than double into 8 ohms.  SNR is measuring a little better than a stereo Cherry amp (117dB or so). I can only describe the sound as "everything Cherry with more openness" so far.  One idea, as with any monoblock, is to place the amps really close to the speakers for extra short speaker wires. Haven't tried that yet. Price will be a little over $2K each, but special deals for repeat customers will knock that down!"

Need to make a correction to that...
"more than double into 8 ohms" should read "more than half into 8 ohms".

Cherry MONOs in silver!

I really like that look Tommy. This design will fit visually into more systems than an all red faceplate IMHO. Maybe the cherry itself could have been made all red but that's cherry pickin' it.  Wink2  The green stem tho is a very nice touch. It's a good move Tommy.  :thumb:

I think he should go with a Gray/Titanium looking color and a satin finish instead of the brushed.
That combo, in my opinion, would look very striking :D

Yeah, these look good, and the ideas sound good too.

I guess I'll hold off on the spray paint for now...

Tommy, maybe you should have started a poll as to what faceplate would be more aesthetically pleasing by having a variey of photoshop faceplates to choose from? Just a passing thought,,,, whoops it's gone now.

Very nice. I still like the original cherry color - stands out nicely against dull-looking components.

I'll have to taste the Cherry Monoblocks in the new year.
