15" Alpha vs Beta vs Augie
« on: 27 Mar 2014, 08:57 pm »
I am in the planning stages of an OB system.  Does anyone have experience with 2 or more of these drivers to be able to give a comparison?  Looking at flat baffle with two 15s per side.

I am using the Alpha's in the following setup:

Drivers are Fostex FX120 and Eminence Alpha 15
Active crossover using a minidsp 2×4
Asymetrical crossover at 200Hz 2nd order LR and 500 Hz 2nd order Bessel
3DB bass boost; 0.9DB gain high shelve, Q 0.7 @7KHz
Drivers connected in phase
Baffle size is 510 x 950 mm; beech wood 26mm, braced on the back using 40×40 mm beams
Designed using MJK licensed calculation models
Bi-Amplification using my Bob Latino Dynaco ST70 tube amplifier for the extended range driver and my LM3886 chipamp for the bass

The setup sounds really nice, but bass below 40hz is lacking a bit. I read really good stuff about the AE drivers. Different price range though..... http://www.aespeakers.com/drivers.php?driver_id=47

Iam wonder if this AES LO series are different from the Dipole 15??
IMO they seems similar drivers from the same brand.
In what they differs??

Hi,
i had a pair of Alpha 15, but my pair of A&D Audio R1524 are much more better than alpha 15, IMHO.
more clear, controlled bass and cheap price like alpha; i'm playing with a AB power amplifier 125watts channel.
i'm using an active 3 ways system, with foobar + allocator plugin into a Motu ultralike mk1 firewire audiocard.
for the mid-high a pair of Focal PC165 coaxial car audio, with focal neomidium tweeter .

The T/S specs are different but in a nutshell I understand that they (the LO15) are the TD15M cone and suspension with the underhung Dipole motor. Compared to the dipole15: higher sensitivity, higher FS. Not sure about FR or distortion.
