How much current does my Kismet Stereo Amp draw?
« on: 27 May 2015, 08:45 am »
Klaus says the amps draw about 30 watts at idle. Does anyone know approximately how much they draw when working hard?

To get the Amps (current) draw, I divide the amount of Watts drawn/Voltage on the line, correct?
Thanks

Whatever your Kismet Stereo Amps draw, remember as follows:

yeah sure, if I had one. I just need an approximation.
There are many variables that would make an approximation tough. What is the nominal load of your speakers and their sensitivity? Things that the Kill A Watt would be able to answer. Maybe someone else here will have more helpful info... :?

nominal load is 8 ohm (probably ranges 6-8 ohms)
sensitivity is about 90db

Klaus, like many other amp producers, recommends leaving the amps on 24/7/

I don´t have a Kismet in place but maybe my findings for the Cyclops (connected to a pair of Kef Q5 - 8 Ohm impedance, 91db sensitivity) gives you an approximate value:

- idle: ca. 42W +/- 0.4W
- working (volume knob at  9 o'clock): no difference than in idle
- working (volume knob at 11 o'clock): peak reached 48W

Of course this also dependent on the song. For the values above I used Grandbrother´s "Ezra was right".

Edit: just forgot to say...i used a kill-a-watt ;-)

You might look to your public library. Where I live the public library keeps at least one Kill-a-Watt for lending purposes. You can borrow it with your library card. Maybe that is possible in your area.
I don't know why you want to know this information but I commend you for caring enough to find out.
