A previous (old firmware) bass levels were too high and were adjusted down to conform to Dolby and DTS certification requirements. If you need to adjust bass levels back up, it can be done through the menu:
SOURCE SETUP-->SPEAKR LEVEL-->SUB (up to +/-12dB)
That is per source. Bass and LFE can also be adjusted globally in SYSTEM-->SETUP-->MISCELLANEOUS menu:
BM DITRIM (range -40 to +22dB, this is Bass Management LFE Digital Input trim)
BM AOTRIM (range -40 to +22dB, this is Bass Management Analog Output trim)
BM DITRIM applies only to SPDIF,Optical and HDMI sources,
BM AOTRIM controls the analog SUB channel output level.
