Here is a plug, by its very nature and soulful purpose is to defeat the ground, and UL says that that's OK. They even gave it a listing number.

And of course it's purpose and use is not to defeat the ground when plugged into a grounded receptacle and circuit, but only to give the ability to use a grounded plug device in a home that only has 2-wire ungrounded receptacles and circuits.

Yes, PS Audio says it is to be temporarily removed for testing purposes only.

But is the PC UL Listed?

UL listed "cheater" plug:

Here is a plug, by its very nature and soulful purpose is to defeat the ground, and UL says that that's OK. They even gave it a listing number.

I'm afraid some of you don't know who, which one your talkin' about........

It is not UL Listed to be used as a ground cheater. It is designed and manufactured as a 3 wire to 2 wire adapter.

No, it is not UL listed for the use of lifting the safety equipment ground from a piece of equipment or appliance. It was designed by the original manufacture as a device for connecting a piece of equipment or appliance that has a 3 wire cord and plug to a 2 wire receptacle that is fastened to a metallic outlet box, which is connected to a metallic conduit that is electrically continuous all the way to the grounded metal enclosure of the electrical panel it is connected to.

The metal tab on the 3 wire female/plug adapter is connected to the equipment ground contact of the female receptacle. The metal ground tab is designed to connect to the 6/32 threaded hub of the wall duplex receptacle by the 6/32 cover plate trim screw.
The 6/32 threaded hub is connected to the metal yoke, the receptacle supporting back strap, of the duplex receptacle.

The correct (and safest) way to use a 3 wire plug & cord in an old 2 wire system, is to install a GFIC. Small form-factor GFIC's are now available to fit in the old smaller wall outlet boxes.
And no, a GFIC does not require a Safety Ground wire (EGC) to function correctly.

Our power transformers are double insulated so are safe with a two conductor polarized power cord (same as having ground lift switch open).

Interesting. Is your equipment UL Listed, or Listed by any other recognized third party safety testing laboratory, for use using a 2 wire power cord and plug?

Why do you give the user the option of using the safety equipment ground.
It's only purpose is to provide a low resistive path for ground fault current to travel back to the source in the event of a ground fault condition.

Yes, a double-insulated component needs to be tested by a NRTL and bear the square in a square symbol. Otherwise if it's metal it requires a 3 wire cord.
