Samsung PN64H5000 64in Plasma HDTV (1080p) $1070.99

Plasma is still the best direct view display technology and this is a good price for a display this size.

Oh Crap, Dan, why'd you have to go and list that  :duh:

I'm soooo tempted. Dumb TV, no 3d, reviews pretty well, what's not to like?

Just bought a pre amp...crap...

It seems like the price for Plasma TV's are dropping to new lows. I just picked up a Samsung 55 inch LED HDTV at HH Gregg and there was an older model NEW Samsung 51 inch plasma for $368.

Both Samsung and Panasonic will discontinue their plasma lines at the end of the year. . .that's why prices are dropping.

Why are plasma's being discontinued?

Contributing factor may be high current draw on AC mains, at least compared to other technology.

It's too bad that a no-compromise dual use HT-2 ch system requires a projector + perforated retractable screen.

I just sold my 52in 720P plasma and am waiting for the right moment to strike on a 60inch 1080P plasma. Not interested in any other type. Plasmas rule.

I bough it around summer 2011 or 2012 for $2000.  Even at that price, i still think it is a great value. Love the picture and the size. Unfortunately, mine has a bit of ground loop hum but I did not even border to fix it. In action movie, I have never notice the noise unless there were silent moment during movie. My dual Rythmik subs always blow me out of the chair 90% of the time anyway....

I'd love to get a new 60" or larger plasma, but my 4 year old 58" Samsung is still going strong. It has just started to show the pink band, but it's easy to fix if you have any technical skill at all. I'll take care of it sometime over the next few weeks.

Tempting... but I have a 58" Panasonic plasma. It's about 4 years old now, I am considering if I should sell it and buy a new one before they are sold out?

My Panny Plasma is a the TC-P58S2, I paid about $1k for it new 4 years ago. The only Samsung product I owned was a Galaxy S3, it's a huge POS compared to the Sony Xperia that replaced it so I'm not sure I'd buy a Samsung product again. The S2 is a mid-line model, I don't want 3D and I'm not SUPER picky about having a perfect picture which is why I got the mid-line model...

Plasmas are being discontinued due to their higher power usage vs LED.

FWIW, my out-the-door price was $1184. I'm in a state where Tiger Direct collects sales tax (6%) and then there's $49 to ship it. You can find 'em at Amazon and other places for $1297 shipped.  So real savings weren't all that big.

I missed out last winter on the Panasonic I wanted because I waited a bit too long. I like plasma and the fact that they're going the way of the dinosaur put some urgency into my decision.

Well, that, and Dan had to post the deal...
