I went on a spending spree and bought all of these CD's over the last few weeks:

Rockpile-Seconds of Pleasure (I've wanted it for about 20 years)

Elvis Costello-King of America (I bought it just for "Indoor Fireworks")

Mindy Smith-One moment More (nice, but a bit boring)

Emmylou Harris-Red Dirt Girl

Nick Lowe-The Impossible Bird (got it because I can't find "Rose of England" on CD for less than $30)

Johnny Cash-Live at Folsom Prison

John Abercrombe-Timeless (loved it on vinyl in '75, but TT is in storage)

Joe Henry-Trampoline (love the title track)

Jack Johnson-Brushfire Fairytales

Counting Crows-Hard Candy (bought it for the fabulous version of "Big Yellow Taxi")

Kings of Convenience-Quiet is the new loud

Rosanne Cash-10 Song Demo

Budgie-Bandolier (had it on 8 track in '75, dug it then)

Cake-Comfort Eagle

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds-Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus

How did I do?

Enjoy,

TIC

TIC,
I may have to agree with you on Mindy Smith's CD. I bought it after seeing her perform the title track and love that song and her remake of Dolly Parton's "Jolene".  But listening to the rest of the CD is not-quite-enthralling: it's "nice" as you said.

BTW, did you know that "One Moment More" (the song) is not the parted lover song that it may at first appear? It was actually written to her foster mother who passed away not that long ago.

TIC- I'd say you did pretty good, especially on the awesome Johny Cash live album and the Nick Drake album.

I just picked up Supergrass We're in it for the $.

5 Guys Walk Into a Bar....box set by the Faces . If you're a fan of the late 60's early 70's Rolling Stones this is essential . They even out Stones the Stones . Great loose ramshackle playing and Rod Stewart is in prime form .

I have several faces CDs, (Ogden, Long Player, A Nod is..) is this worth the investment considering what I already have?

Two recent purchases that I really enjoy are Luna - Rendevouz and Bill Frisell - Unspeakable.

I just find myself listening to them over and over. Maybe there is some sort of subliminal messege on them that causes this? At any rate, they are both well worth the money.

Besides the great sound , 30 of the 67 tracks have never been released before . This is solely material by the Faces and not the earlier Small Faces ( Ogden's Nut ).

Got a Starbucks compilation

It just came out and should be at your second favorite coffee house.
I was hoping to find an older CD of the same name that featured a rare track by Kathleen Edwards, but no luck.  That earlier CD is available online though.

I've gotten some Starbucks CD's off eBay in the past and have really liked them--Songs of the Sirens has a bunch of great female artists.

Starbucks CDs are great! My girlfriend works there so I often get them... but a lot of their CDs are available at music stores for much lower prices. The Ray Charles Duets album they have is very good.

Is there any places , besides Sound Garden , in Syr. that take cds in trades ? Did Record Theater close or move to another locale ? I live about an hour away and usually make a few trips a year to trade cds.

Thanks

I got a recommendation for this album in, of all places, a Michael Connolly novel--The Narrows, if your'e a fan--wherein the brooding hero listens to it and it helps him straighten out his head.  It's Lucinda Williams, World Without Tears.  I went out and bought it, listened to it, and love it. She goes way beyond what I've come to call the "He done me wrong song" genre, both musically and philsophically.

And it's in HDCD!
