Stumbled on a new (?) CD label, The Primo Collection, in this case Duane Eddy, "The Essential Collection" (PRMCD 6145) and the sound is damned good!   Sounds like it was (properly) recorded yesterday!   Looks like a German label.  https://hart.de/catalogue/label/Primo.html?page=5  All the packaging is the same style.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhHhhhhh!!!
(ad nauseum).

I have to get this. Love that John Cipollina tremolo. There use to be a 2lp boot of the Filmore stuff, "maiden of the Cancer Moon" which was pretty good but the sq was poor and beggars can't be choosers. When QMS stuck to the raga/pysch rock they were great and Cipollina was great but the blues stuff, not so much. Thanks AD!

Gents - have only listened to it once so far, and in full disclosure there is a mic dropout on the vocals for maybe a minute or so on one of the cuts on the first disc. You can still hear the vocal in the background from the other mics, but it is mildly annoying. Hey, that's live recording. Can't remember which song at the moment. But on the whole I say it's worth adding to the library. I'll probably check out more of the concerts that have been released in the not too distant past. I picked up a 'Live in San Jose 1967' bootleg many years back (not realizing it was such), which was an atrocious recording, mostly unlistenable. Though I broke it out not long ago and it didn't sound as bad as I'd remembered, but can't recommend that.

Have a great Sunday !

Anybody have this Quicksilver Box? Sound?

https://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Replica-Collection-Boxset-High-Definition/dp/B0154AYCTU/ref=sr_1_5?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1502725794&sr=1-5&keywords=quicksilver+messenger+service

Don't have the Box set, but do have the re-masters of the 1st & Shady Grove in that format. Will have to re-listen, it's been a bit, but as I recall they were well done. Will check next time I've got the system on & verify.

Ok, just listened to the two debut releases. Note that the original CD releases are pretty good. The remaster is definitely more dynamic, cleaner, & more defined. Of course it's also 'hotter', ie pumped up. I clearly noted the volume change between the two, and I was getting a little fatigue with the remaster. For the occasional listen I'd think it would be worth the purchase, particularly if you only listen to one of these CDs at a time. My ears aren't what they once were, so better ears or more critical systems may find it too hot for enjoyment.

Listening to Shady Grove now. Like the 1st the original release is good, but the remaster is better. In this case more listenable than the debut, doesn't seem quite as hot, no fatigue.

To a degree it's also system dependent, though my office system is pretty smooth in general. SS amp, tube pre, hybrid DAC, Sony 300 disc changer, Dahlquist monitors. Listening extremely near field. You might have an issue listening to more than 1 or two of these CDs in a row at volume, I listen at pretty reasonable levels, but if I didn't already have most of the releases in one form or another, and I wanted the literature as well I'd go for it. I'm not particularly good on technical terminology, but the remasters have a presence/clarity missing in the original releases.

Hope that helps some, YMMV.

This isn't a recent purchase but I thouught I'd add to the above discussion. I have this 2disc retrospective and the selection and sq is very good. Anyone looking for a QMS refresher or introduction would be well served here. Cipollina's guitar sounds great on this set and perhaps deliberately mixed to sound 'upfront' at least more so than I remember from the original recordings.

+1  An excellent collection both musically & sonically.  8)

After a few months of waiting, my local used record dealer called.  He had found a Mint copy of Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones for me.  It is absolutely pristine and sounds fabulous.  According to my dealer, it's a first pressing, but honestly I'm not that into collecting to really know what that means as far as this LP is concerned.  It sounds good and the jacket looks like new.  I'm a happy guy.
