Wifi extenders
« on: 25 Mar 2018, 09:54 pm »
I was unable to configure my Bluesound Node 2 in my basement listening room because it could not find  my wifi signal but when I bring it closer to the modem,  wifi signal is found.
Not quite sure why since I'm able to connect to the internet and can watch netflix without issues in the basement.
My modem is 2 floors up from the basement so I'm guessing I need a stronger signal. Is that what extenders are for? I'm using a Netgear modem.
Recommendations please.

Thanks

If you have an old wifi router laying around you might be able to flash it with DD-WRT and turn into a wireless extender. I am using a $20 wifi router for a similar purpose.

On the unit I have, with the stock firmware it's a piece of junk. Once flashed with DD-WRT it's been flawless.

Maybe the bluesound WiFi reciver is not as strong as the other device from where you watch Netflix
It surely is not the same with all devices

You can try a WiFi extender as suggested by others but that will also reduce the speeds by almost half

If you can connect an extra router you might have lying around to you main router wired that would be the best option. Won't have any loss in speed as well

Remember to assign a different ip in series of the main router and disable DHCP server in the second router

If that doesnt work, I'll try the extender. If that doesnt work, I'll give a call to my internet provider.

Success!
These work and work well. Just like a hard wired connection :thumb:

I've used a pair of the Netgear Powerline 1200 for about two years to extend my Ethernet network to my streamer. The adapters have been basically flawless, I've had to reboot them perhaps two times.
