... or do I need a HAP-100 preamp in between ?

Thanks.

The DAC-80 outputs 4 Vrms, which can power the STA-100 for most applications.

The HAP-100 outputs 7.8 Vrms so it will have a greater ability overall.

In a small room, or at low listening levels the DAC-80 can work, if you want room filling sound in a bigger room then add the HAP-100.

I always get confused with voltage/gain and input sensitivity.
My calculation tells me that the pre/dac only needs 1.8vrms to drive the STA 100 to ful power.

But when manuacture already list the input sensitivity of the amp, i thought that this number mean the voltage need to deliver full power?

So with the STA of less the 0.89v and with dac of 4vrms, isnt that more then enough to drive the amp?

Hi Ricardo,

That may be correct, but I am not technically savy enough to compute that either.

My answer is based on actually using both units in the combinations questioned.

I might add that I did not lack for gain with either pairing.
