You will not be disappointed.  It is a fantastic film, but brace yourself--it is the most intense movie I have ever seen, from beginning to end.

Every time I saw a winter scene on TV the day after I saw the movie it gave me flashbacks!

I will agree it is shot really really well.  The scenery and lighting are a fantastic add to the experience.

I expect it will do very well with awards and revenues etc.  I was not 100% sure I loved it, but it was a good movie.

Not that I am a movie critic but if DiCaprio does not win the Oscar with his role, he will NEVER win it with anything else.  The story is well developed and everything from the cinematography, to the soundtrack as well as the sheer will and effort that went it to it....It truly shows.  No other movie I know off can pull it off like this movie does.

DiCaprio (Without Question) deserves an Academy Award..

Absolutely.  Man, what a film and what a performance!

I enjoyed it but do not think it was that brilliant a movie....great cinematography but the story is a bit thin for the length of time involved. But whoever produced that bear scene should get recognized, for sure. Still, better than the new Star Wars for sure.

Movie was good, not great.  IMO not up to "Best Picture" standards of the past.  DiCaprio certainly plumbed the depth and nuance of groaning.  My vote for best supporting actor was the bear followed by Tom Hardy. Hardy is quickly challenging Christian Bale for the best working actor around today.

I thought this movie was fantastic.  :thumb:
I would say that it's one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen , from a cinematography perspective.
This is a movie you must see on the big screen!!

Cinematography - excellent (Agree completely with stlrman. Must see on the big screen.)
Acting - good / very good
Plot - average

Not sure it'll get Best Picture primarily because the plot lacked depth. I didn't feel like it was really groundbreaking or thought provoking, though the "feel" of the movie was very immersive. I also commend the producers / directors for the film's cultural authenticity. http://www.capjournal.com/news/arikara-man-was-adviser-on-dicaprio-s-the-revenant/article_3c23e9c8-b8e9-11e5-978b-d720c8cbd8d9.html

Long, cold and gory.
Great scenery, two thumbs up for the bear.

I wasn't particularly impressed / entranced by this picture either, but as you said, it has its merits.
