Came in to this movie not knowing anything about it other than I really liked the director's other big movie "The 3rd Man".  Warning, spoilers below.


Haiku

Johnny's in the IRA.  An unusually young & handsome James Mason.  Fresh out of prison, he's going to lead the gangs next heist!





And sh!t goes horribly wrong and Johnny is badly hurt and on the lam:

Meeting some very strange people:

Hey, the lovers are reunited at the end - everything turns out OK, right?  Hahaha, clearly you haven't been paying attention:




Summary
OK, that is some bleak sh!t!!  Clearly this is a film noir that's concerned more with punishment than with justice.  And I LIKED that about the film.
