Cleaning chemicals?

What sort of cleaning chemical do you prefer when tuning up your old gear?

-Pots?
-Gold RCA and speaker terminals?
-PC boards?
-Others?

Someone told me about Caig products but when I looked them up, there were about 20 different choices. So, I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks,

Eric M.

I've used Caig gold (small bottle with brush) for years for RCA plugs and jacks and other non-soldered electrical connections.  I can't remember at the moment what I used on pots last time a restored a vintage amp.

CRC Contact Cleaner works well for me.
It will flush the lubricant out so for that it would Caig DeOxit Gold

I got mine at Rat Shack a long time ago.
You could also just use WD40 for a little protector and lubricant.  I have a gallon jug of that stuff.

Not sure how often it would be encountered  or under which conditions it applies to, but technicians working on analog Tektronix gear (Oscilliscopes, etc) are warned not to use contact cleaners during repair or refurbishment. Apparently it is incompatible with Printed Circuit Board materials in the devices themselves and protective coatings on pots/controls. I would suspect "Tek"-quality manufacturing is rare on vintage audio gear but it might be worth a double-check if there is any doubt.
