The lamb of god lp box set sounds pretty digital. Two dimensional, flat.
I'll send it to you with your platter.

Attention All Headbangers: If you get the chance to check out the massive documentary series " Metal Evolution " currently being shown on MuchMoreMusic in Canada ( I believe it played on VH-1 Classics in the U.S. ), it's definitely worth a look. The guys who did " Metal- A Headbanger's Journey " take an expanded look at the history of metal and all it's sub-genres. Loaded with interesting interviews and footage. I've seen seven episodes so far and there's plenty more to come...did I mention it's massive?
Very cool.

What some of your most rock out with your c**k out, head-banging favorite riff laden tunes?  I have plenty.  Right now, Lamb of God - Hourglass is up there.

My first exposure to metal was hitchhiking when I was 14.  Three big Samoan dudes in leather picked me up in a powder blue VW Beetle.  They were cranking this on eight track tape:

Then there was:

and

I saw UFO open for Blue Oyster Cult in 1977.  BOC was a huge letdown after the UFO set.

Later I got into:

and

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and all the rest of the 80's metal bands - except the poseurs and hair bands - although some of them had some nice riffy songs.  Then Grunge hit and I was off running in a different direction.

Next came:

and

Today there is a lot of new metal that I like.  This thread has exposed me to some bands I've never heard before...

Thanks,

Martin

You're gonna love it. The episode where he goes to Seattle in search of a link between metal and grunge is particularly fun.

I didn't get tickets yet, but I am going to try to buy them to see them up here in Toronto on the 25th.

Anyone here into Devin Townsend?  I've been digging him for years and think he's highly under-rated.  He may be a bit spastic for some of you.  He can be very zany at times.  Other times he's beautifully melodic and other times he's as heavy as you can possibly imagine.

Here's his latest video:

And a live tune from his comic rock opera, Ziltoid the Omniscient:

Sorry Prelude, I forgot to get back to you on this. :duh:
Katatonia was lackluster as a live act the night I saw them opening for Opeth - the material all shared a similar tempo and there wasn't much action on stage. I'm not really familiar with them but I thought they had some good tunage, though.
As for Opeth, let's just say I've never seen an audience spending so much time websurfing or checking their email on their smart phones. The Opeth set was basically metal-free - all the pre-Heritage songs which had any death-growling were completely avoided by the band and the crowd seemed to swing between puzzled, bored and pissed-off. It was an odd evening.

I've got tickets for Rammstein in the spring - are you going to catch them ?

No one here has mentioned Probot? If you've never heard them, look em up. A "must have" album for metal fans.
