Help Choosing
« on: 28 Apr 2015, 10:21 pm »
Hi,

I have a pair of Chane A5RX-C tower speakers that need a good amp.
http://www.chanemusiccinema.com/chane-loudspeakers/A5rx-c

I was looking at the IDA-16 based on some of the reviews...

I mostly listen to digital audio from Tidal and AptX on my phone when I'm making dinner.
Not doing too much critical listening. I had bought the Yamaha A-S501 but found it a bit thin and grating so I returned it.
Perhaps it hadn't "broken in" enough...I just want my new speakers to sound good.

Should I consider the ST-10 to run from my Yamaha RX-A700 receiver or would the IDA-16 be a lot better?

Regards,
Nathan

Using your receiver with ST-10 is a bad choice because you are not fully utilise the performance of ST-10, it should be paired with high performance DAC.
Using IDA-16 is overkilled for your need.

The $995 IDA-8 that will be shipping in early June is perfect for you. This is a new design that is jaw droopingly good.
I am still working on the description and spec, but this is what you get and nothing else in the world can get to this at this price level:
100Wx2 @ 8Ohm (your speaker has relatively high efficiency and this is more than enough)
THD+N = 0.0015 and SNR at -135dB   (shocking!)
IDA-8 combines an ultra linear class A input stage with class D power stage in a new design to accomplish the richness of high-end class A sound characteristic with speed and dynamic of class D design.  And it comes with state of the art DAC (less input than IDA-16).

It is specifically designed for people who listen to digital music and streaming music. It makes ordinary speakers sound amazing.

Thank you rustydoglim!

Few questions:
-is the power output regulated for all impedances like the IDA-16?
-what is the maximum instantaneous current output?
-will it look similar to the 16?
-where can I buy it from?
-are there any out for review ?

This product is not even shipping yet.  I am still working on the description.  So I can't answer all the technical questions yet.
It is half size: https://plus.google.com/photos/106836432394752820607/albums/6135513648721047249/6135513748804721442?banner=pwa&pid=6135513748804721442&oid=106836432394752820607

Shipping in June. Reviews probably won't come out until September or October. We expect this one to be sold out initially.
If you are in the USA, you can buy in from Audio Advisor, Sonic Unity, Amazon.com or any dealers listed on the website.

The silver body will be silver in color, not black as shown in the photo.  We decided to change it after the prototype photo was taken.

Hello. The IDA-8 does look appealing. I'd like to know more about the included DAC once you are able to publish more details.

You won't need it.  The IDA-8 comes with it's own adapter

The bluetooth adapter is better because it is digital in. If you use an external adapter with RCA output, you are not taking advantage of the internal DAC. Also note the optical and coaxial inputs can accept DoP stream besides SPDIF.  Hmmm what for ? The secret will be reviewed in the future (for compatibility with a future product).
