I also have a Singxter F-1 converter that I currently use with my metrum octave, we can try that too.

I don't really get why the dac would have a problem with a mac mini which is what I also use, we can try it on mine as well when it gets here. Jake is bringing his mac mini so we should be able to get something to work.

Hi Folsom,

I had always assumed you were in the Sacramento area due to your user name.  So then, what area do you hail from?

Thanks,
Jake in SE WA

I'm either a genius (because I fixed the issue without help from a Mac OSX expert) or a moron (because it took me so damned long to figure it out!).

The issue with scratchy/brittle/bright SQ from my Mac Mini to Venus DAC is fixed.   :banana piano:  :drums:

So what was the fix???   Was it as simple as unplugging your hair dryer from the same outlet

But...but...I'm bald....

My issue was the Venus at first wouldn't play at all. Alvin helped me reload firmware using a borrowed Windows PC. Music flowed from the PC through the DAC and into my speakers with no issues. However, as soon as I switched over to my Mac Mini, I heard crap, crud, and sh#tty crackling/scratchy sounds.
I decided it must be something to do with settings somewhere in my OSX, so I peeked into my 'Audio Midi Setup' 'Audio Devices' toolbox. Nothing appeared to be wrong, but I clicked on Combo384 Amanero anyway just to poke around. The format was set to its highest setting of 768000Hz. CD quality is 44100Hz, so I selected this just to try. Well, what do you know? My issue is fixed.
Now, I assume my output is limited to a max of 44.1kHz with this setting, but there are other settings which I can experiment with.

I've adjusted the format to 192000Hz with no discernible ill effects.

No, I am in Richland, WA.

Jake...The world is a truly amazing place. I just discovered Richland is in Benton County. My home of the last 14 years has been Corvallis, OR....in....Benton County....We must be neighbors!

I imagine Richland is a nice place to retire(?).

Alan and I are still alive, and sitting in a Denny's catching breakfast. We're ahead of schedule and need to kill time before arriving at Lou's to pick up my Apollos.

Glad everyone is still alive, that's always a bonus :thumb:.

The salmon is on the water smoker after marinating for about 6 hours and the Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork) is done.

Jake stopped by yesterday with the makings for his salad extravaganza he put together.

Woody's Garage is ready for a workout :D.

See you all when you get here, drive safe. We wouldn't want any of the equipment to get hurt .

Greg, is parking going to get tight? I don't remember, but is there any place that would work for street parking?
