I have a Manley phono stage that uses 6922 / 6DJ8 / 7DJ8.

How can I tell if the 6N1P will be a suitable sub?  The 7DJ8 is slighter hotter, which leads me to believe the Chinook would not have an issue w/ the Russian tubes.

Thanks -

Swapping in the 6N1P-EV won't damage the phono stage. The 7DJ8 heater is 7V / 300mA, where the 6N1P-EV is 6.3V / 600mA.

For about ten years I used a phono stage that ran two 12ax7s and two 6922s. My favorite 6922 was made by the European Audio Team or E.A.T.  My second favorite 6922 was the very common 1980's JAN Phillips 6922.  Funny, that tube came with the phono stage and lasted for years and years. They were dead quiet too.

Have only tried a few regular 6DJ8s, GE and Sylvania. Those sounded good but were too noisy for phono.

I tried some of the famous OTK Oshkod factory Russian substitutes and thought they were pretty mediocre sounding.

Looking at a 6DJ8, the voltage / amp is 6 V/ approximately 320mA.

If the circuit was designed for this, how is that going to work since V=IR and R is constant?

Hmmm, I got what I thought was 600mA from some Russian site... Probably got lost in the Cyrillic.

Looking at the 6DJ8 sheet over at TDSL and a couple of other places, the 6DJ8 looks like 365mA, with the 7DJ8 at 300mA.

to replace my 5 year old played everyday Matsushita 6922's in my Audio Research LS7 line stage?  Tell me a little bit about why you would recommend a particular tube, thanks.
One almost has to audition the different brands as the particular design and parts quality also dictates which tube/brand will sound optimum. I say "optimum" because a particular tube brand "X" may sound best in a particular design, but that does not mean the tube brand "X" is the most natural and accurate in and of itself in absolute terms.

Is there anyway you can audition/borrow different brands first, without having to laydown money?

Cheers
