A question for Mike Dzurko,

What sort of electronics- amps or receivers and cd players- do you use when testing speakers?  I've looked for a any reference to this and couldn't find it so apologies if it's been mentioned elsewhere.

Virgil:

We use a variety of equipment for our evaluations, a partial list includes:

Muse Model 300 mono amps
Muse Pre Amp
Halo Preamp
Various Halo Amps
B&K Amps
Sonic Frontiers 40 watt tube amp
B&K Processor
Marantz SR7400
ADA Processor and Amps
A variety of El Cheapo $150 Receivers to test for "easy to drive load"

For my two-channel reference tests I usually rely on the Muse 300s and either the Muse preamp or the Halo. Not because they're the ultimate, but because they are quite good and I am very familiar with the sound and I'm concerned about how the speakers sound more than the electronics.

Thanks for asking!

Thank you for the great insight into this!  That equipment sounds like loads of fun as well as work.
