i have been visited by my old friend (break-in) - i know this is blasphemous to some - and i kept trying to tell him/her to leave

but over the last week having this visitor in my listening room has reaped a sound from the sony that is so much better than i heard - 1 week and a half ago (i thought the sound was more than fine then) - it has been an unexpected surprise! B

Break-in said they well leave when their good and ready.

A RWA-Z1ES-2 shipped today to a customer who ordered online and had it drop shipped.  He mentioned that he will post feedback here once it is settled in...

Current lead-time is around 2 weeks from when I receive your Sony.

I'm hard at work on the Z1ES-3 now...  :whip:

this radio station recommended by ozark tom http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=123436.200 (11th page) happens to be really good - even though its 128 kbps -  it sounds really good - who knew?

Just wanted to say that i leave my unit on 24hrs a day mostly - and the top of the unit where the tubes are barely gets warm - it continues to sound really good - and its so glitch free!

its nice having that nice tube richness without it being overdone - also my wife and daughter (14 years old) can use the sony easily (via the smartphone app) without having canipshuns

not sure what of all im saying belongs in this thread

really impressed sonically with the level 1 mods - everything mostly sounds a little more put together - bass seems more realistic - and the detail seems more pronounced.

if you can swing it - its a no brainer!!

Hi smargo,

Thanks for your updated impressions on the RWA-Z1ES-1 (and putting minds to ease about the tubes/heat).

Glad it has been glitch-free as well!  That always helps! :thumb:

Another ongoing update:

whats really nice about the sony is its like going to my favorite restaurant and the food is always consistent - i know exactly what im getting each time - that relieves so much angst

because im always looking at something to give a "what for" to. this is just one less thing - im really impressed with sony - with coming up with this product and all the nice features it has to offer

i was a little skeptical to say the least in the beginning of my foray into downloading music files

its been nice that the "hand holding" is and was there - along with vinni rossi's overall knowledge of all things stereo and electronics - has made that happen in spades

its been a while - i think april 24th - the last time i talked about the sony mods - level 1

the player continues to have integrity every time i listen - there is not one song that i listen to that i say

"I wish this was better" - everything sounds very listenable - no matter what format - whether its dsd or not - yes - the recordings vary - they are all over the place

The tube mod is very quiet and no issues whatsoever - would never know there is a tube inside - except affecting the sound quality for the better

some dsd sound incredible - some good - some ok - the same goes with all the other sampling rates - no rhyme or reason

This mod with the tubes breathes "more life and vigor" into an already good machine

Hi Smargo,

Thanks for your updates!   :notworthy:

As you and others can tell from my posts, I really love the Z1ES - I am at the point that if I was without my unit, I'd be pretty
bummed out.  It really enhances my listening, be it Redbook, high res PCM, DSD, or playing internet radio.  It will probably be one
of favorites for a long time!

Enjoy it!

i just wanted to say vinnie - that everything is running flawlessly - including the tubes - sound quality is never questioned. I find myself wanting to download more music.

Hi smargo,

Glad to hear this - Thanks for your follow-up!

What good stuff have you been downloading?  DSD?

I just downloaded the new Natalie Merchant (self titled) from HD Tracks and it is her best sounding recording so far, and probably one
of her best albums IMO!  Not sure if you are into her.

she always puts out quality material.  Her 10,000 Maniacs stuff was good music, but not good sounding.  I have not heard the new solo one yet but certainly intend too.

i haven't updated in a while - the sound has been so "right" from my modded sony that im even listening to the "Carpenters" greatest hits from 1969-1981

This music is so un-hip and cheesy - but the recording is very good and karen carpenter's voice was so underrated.

I know its not cool to listen to the carpenter's in 2014 - but the recording shines and so does her voice

Hi Smargo,

Thanks for the update - and while I agree that the Carpenters are not hip, they have a handful great songs and Karen's voice is so good!

Apparently, she was reincarnated in the body of a young Japanese girl:

Carpenters.  That's funny.  I have been listening to Christmas music on and off all day, and decided maybe the fam was getting a little tired of it (I never seem too - what's that say about me?), so I was flipping through my music and came upon the Carpenters Singles 1969-1981 and put it on. I think that's the same one you listened too back in August.  You're right, Smargo, it is a good recording.

And I'll take Karen over Diana any day of the week.   :peek:

But I need to catch up on some college games I have been recording today.
