Jeanne Moreau Passed Away
« on: 1 Aug 2017, 06:47 pm »
Symbol of French cinema Jeanne Moreau dies at age 89, she has appeared in more than 100 films during her 65 year career.
Jeanne was one of the most famous actresses in French cinema,

She starred in films by renowned filmmakers such as François Truffaut (in "Jules and Jim," the absolute classic of the nouvelle vague), Orson Welles ("The Trial"), Michelangelo Antonioni, Roger Vadim and Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

The actress also made her mark in Brazilian cinema by participating in "Joanna Francesa", by Cacá Diegues.

The actress lived with Truffaut a love story. In 2009, when she was honored at the Rio Film Festival, she said she could not stop fans from calling her a "diva," but that had no influence on her routine.

"I can not stop being called a diva. These 'muse', 'star', 'living legend' titles have no influence on my routine. I can not make people shut up, nor do I try to keep them from calling me that. Am I worthy of all this? I do not know,".

FullRangeMan, thank you so much for your posting on Jeanne Moreau. As a teenager I saw Jules and Jim, by myself, at our local Art Movie house. It changed my life for several reasons, not the least of which was my introduction to Jeanne Moreau. As a man with with many sisters I knew there must be something beyond the bubble-head stereotype that American women had been subjected to at the time. Jeanne Moreau introduced me to a feminine ideal that was easily as good as us males and quite possibly frighteningly superior. I'm no Leftie but Jeanne Moreau made me a life long feminist. Bonjour Mon Ami and merci. And adieu to the glory days of French Cinema.

Wasn't she in "Paint Your Wagon" with Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin?

Nope, that was another classy, beautiful woman named Jean Seberg. Can't say I've seen a lot of Jeanne's movies, but the few I have she was always a standout. Will have to revisit some of those you listed FRM. She left quite an admirable library of work.

The critics were bonkers over "The Lovers" and "Diary of a Chambermaid" which caused quite a stir back in the day, as did many of her films.

Worth to see Jean Seberg in Bonjour Tristesse-1958 staring the elegant David Niven and Deborah Kerr.

There are a lot of great independent movies and movie makers out there now.

Not to mention the Miles Davis soundtrack! Kind of Blue fans take note.

Hear, hear.

And RIP Ms. Moreau - I loved her in every film I saw of hers.  I think Bay of Angels was my favorite.

There are still good movies made, except it seems you have to seek hidden treasure  (despite or thanks to all social media). Or was it like that in Golden Age of French cinema too?
