Don't you love it? The spirit of irrationality  :duh:

Best,
Anand.

Yes.
That said, one thing I have noticed is (over time) common-sense and pragmatism can sink into some audiophiles.  Even the most blinded types, when subjected to the intellectual dishonesty and self-deception that invades this industry, will eventually raise an eyebrow.
However, we won't find many on this particular audio forum though.  :)

Anyways, back to the original topic.  I see nothing wrong with this FW unit....other than the expensive price tag.  Conceptually, this is a very simple unit with basic crossover and first-order shelving filter added for dipole equalization.  The same thing, conceptually, can be constructed with about $20 worth of resistors, capacitors, op-amps.

pay 12 times more than a minidsp, as a bonus get worse measurements!  :D
but atleast its less silly than his 10k (?) fullrange driver speakers (http://shinshu.fm/MHz/06.94/images/zs9B1pMl.jpg)

Honestly rabbit, I never took NP as a serious speaker designer. He's a tinkerer at best and does it to entertain himself which is fine.

All things equal, competent loudspeaker design is EXTRAORDINARILY difficult, and requires resources, time, dedication, and most importantly a keen understanding of the importance of directivity control, and psychoacoustics. Very few loudspeakers achieve that - most brag about their stout cabinetry, or lack thereof (with regards to OB designs).

NP's expertise in analog circuit design is well established. Yes, he deviates from the norm there as well but he does have a good understanding of the importance of low IMD, and the importance of concentrating on the harmonic distortion spectra more than any other aspect - which is where he ties in psychoacoustics. At least he publishes that data (and its reaffirmed by 3rd part measurements), so you can make an informed decision prior to purchase. This is in stark contrast to many loudspeaker designers who cower and hide (not all, but most).

I find it distressing how we (the enthusiasts/the audiophiles) breed incompetence by not demanding accountability. If we did demand it from all designers be it loudspeakers, analog and digital equipment, just imagine?!

There is a reason why a buy/sell section called AudioGON exists. It should really be called AudioTarot.

Best,
Anand.

Can we keep the topic of conversation on OB speakers in general and the NP crossover more specifically. Thank you :)

Well Nelson use a discrete  jfet toshiba that are the best active ss device  on this planet  in class A and is perfect for split the amp for PureAudioProject speakers as is good passive design Ob that dont need a correction only a simple xo , 15" PureAudioProject is a real OB speakers with right qts and Hi efficiency
Biampling have only sense for use a big AB on bass and fine small amp in class A for the fullrage tube or ss to taste
Nelson  about speaker building please read this http://www.firstwatt.com/pdf/art_cs_amps.pdf
Nelson is very fine with diy's as he give out an amp at year for free an help a lot
