Sorry - Audirvana+. It has MQA decoding. My understanding is that MQA is supposed to be tailored to the specific DAC, so I suppose this is a halfway step where the 96k is regenerated from the 44k1 (?) stream without the tailoring to the specific DAC.

Having written that, I'm confused now. Why isn't the Tidal desktop app decoding a Master stream to 96k? Um

I think you need a dedicated "MQA" DAC (hardware) for the full "unfold" to 96k. The desktop software is a "partial unfold". Not sure what the resolution is there. It has to be <16bits for the LSB (or 3) to be "borrowed" for the HF "folding" process. Somewhere between 15-13bits.
Not sure if you've seen Dr Lesurfs article? http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/MQA/origami/ThereAndBack.html

Tidal Desktop App decodes MQA to 24/96k
You sure? Link?
What does the next hardware "unfold" step do?

John Darko explains the process pretty well:

mr_bill is correct.  The Tidal desktop app will play the master files at 24/96 or 24/88.2.

What is A+ ..... to go with it?
That would be Audirvana Plus 3 (for Mac) which integrates MQA core decoding (also known as the first unfolding): https://audirvana.com/?p=4153

What I like most about the Masters track is the fact I didn't spend any additional money for the better SQ. There is always better SQ available for those willing to part with $$$ but how often to you get an entire library of hi rez music just dropped on you for no additional $$$?
