Bryston 7B SST2 sound when powering on...
« on: 12 Jan 2015, 06:52 pm »
So when I power on either of my 7Bs they make a "rrrrrrrrr" type of sound for maybe about 3 seconds.
They are not silent like the 4B that I had when powering on.
I thought maybe this is normal for the 7Bs but now I am wondering if it really is normal?

Hi Sanjay

Yes it is normal - it is the soft-start circuit starting up.

HI, I just wanted to follow up with a related question.
I have two REL R-218 subs plugged into the same 20A outlets on either side with each of the 7Bs.
i.e. one amp and sub on the left outlet and one amp and sub on the right outlet.
It doesn't matter if the subs are connected to the amps with it's high level connection or not.
If the 7Bs are powered on and I then power on the subs, the paired 7B will make a clicking noise and the front LED will turn to orange and then a second later it will turn back to the normal green and everything is OK and works fine.

Still it concerns me and I'm not sure why this is happening.
Does anyone know what might be going on?

Maybe turning on the subs temporarily pulls a bunch of power on the line for a second or two?

Don't know. Doesn't make sense though.

No, that's not the noise I get. It's completely different.

Anyway, I'm now more concerned about why the led turns orange and there is a clicking sound and then the led turns back green when I turn on the sub. Actually there is a clicking sound in the amp even when it's off and I turn on the sub.
