LS6 vs LS9 vs something else
« on: 19 Apr 2015, 11:09 pm »
Hi

I am considering the LS9 or the LS6 from Angel City Audio as a replacement for 20 year old Dynaudio Finales. I have the room for this speaker, I like what a line array does (I've had Maggie's previously), and I'm keen on the full range aspect.

Some questions for :

This design and components are nearly 10 years old. As a system does it still stack up against more modern designs up to $10K?
Is there something else I should be considering given these are now discontinued?
Are the LS9's that much better than the LS6 in a 20x25x10 room? The difference in price between the two is $4,500.

Any input is gratefully and graciously received.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

They still easily stack up against anything. They're great speakers.

If they still have some then get them before they're gone. You might not ever see a deal like that again.

And the 9's are a step up in that they have a little better detail level from the lower crossover point and a more effortless sound. They can also hit higher SPL levels with ease.

I would still have my 9's if my room were that big. :(
In the $10k market, nothing even comes close.

Thanks for the input. The LS9's are $4,500 more than the LS6's so I'll have to think about this a bit further.

I had both in almost an identically sized room to yours and either way you'll like what they do with that space.  I'd go 9's again, but the 6's were plenty of budget is a consideration.

Go for the 9's.  If you don't, you'll always wonder what you are missing.

Years back Danny and I actually switched out the 6 & 9s... probably the only time these have been shuffled around in a quick comparison.  Although the 6s have the same sound, the 9s are more open and dynamic.  I bought the 9s.

Agreed ,  and  you probably won't  have the opportunity to switch to the 9's down the road, becoming scarce !

If 6 were 9 I'd be very happy.  Still love my 6's.

What crossover options do you have with Hugh?

Have the 6's. Great speakers. I've heard the 9's in a different room with different gear (Thanks Sunil! ). If I had the room and the money, there is no question I'd get the 9's. They are truly fantastic speakers. As Danny said, more dynamic and incredible low end. Pair them with good source and power, you will be a truly happy camper.

I've heard better speakers, but we're talking serious, serious money.

(Those LS-X's.........sigh)

"If 6 were 9". Isn't that the title of an early Jimi Hendrix song? 1st or 2nd album.

I have heard both.  Wonderful speakers, but I would go for the LS-9's.

I own two pairs of 9's and one pair of 6's.  The 6's are wonderful...   But the 9's are better.
