...und ein engels stimme!

No kidding, her voice grabs something deep inside of me, which induces my eyes to moisten a bit too much. Just listen to the end of this performance, after the singing of words has ended and the magnificent instrument that is her voice spreads its wings - soars so gracefully and to incredible heights.

Bestimmt! Ah, well, to each his/her own. If you listen carefully to her voice in the song linked below, you will hear subtle vibrato. This is 'My Mother' from her eponymous, first album. Perhaps, it's just my heritage - recently learned that my Irish grandfather actually descended from the Viking invaders - not properly Irish, after all. Anyway, I'd much rather listen to Eivør sing in her native tongue (Faroese).

I think it's my favorite song on the few (4) Eivør albums I have. I wish it were 10 times longer - could easily listen to it for an hour (it's the one song in Faroese that I have memorized and can sing, though I hate to pollute it with my crappy voice). I just posted the link to the stripped down version of 'Rain' (quite different from what's on 'Room') because Brooklyn's post of 'The Rain Song' got me thinking about it. Sorry to run on about her, but I find her voice enchanting, and think it's a pity that she isn't more well known. A while back, I posted a link to her cover of Kate Bush's 'Hounds of Love', which I think betters the original.

No worries about "going on about her". There are many gals I could go on about. Something about that female voice, when you hear one that strikes your fancy, it really does something to a fellow.
It's when you go on and on and on about a dude is when I start forming opinions.

Here's one you might like.

No worries about "going on about her"...

Thanks for understanding. Actually, it's not just her voice (which I do think is exceptional), but it's also the language. For the last couple of years, I've been obsessed with songs in other languages. I'm only fluent in English, but I do speak broken German - well enough to communicate, but that's about the extent of it. As my 60th birthday is racing towards me, I find myself especially enamored with the ring of Swedish, Finnish, Norse and Faroese. My goal is to learn one song a month in one of those languages. It's getting less difficult, but some of the words really tie my tongue in knots for the first week, or so. Mind you, I'm not a singer (a significant understatement), but I don't mind trying when nobody can hear me.

I clicked that link with a bit a trepidation, as 'The Sound of Silence' is kind of sacred. Nouela definitely did it justice. Thanks for the link - had never heard of her. Isn't it amazing how much music there is in the world? There is still so much to discover. YouTube is flippin' awesome, and this thread has introduced me to a number of artists - way back near the start, you posted a link of Agnes Obel, for instance. Upon listening to 'Riverside', I immediately went to Amazon and ordered 'Philharmonics'. There have been numerous others. The Internet is a wonderful thing.

Glad I could help you spend your money.
Between Youtube, Pandora, Spotify, internet radio and threads like this, it never ceases to amaze me how much new music there is. Especially when that "new" music is older than I am!
Holly Cole does a song in French that blows me mind. I wish I could think of it, I think you'd like it.

Here is a singer that I think is fantastic.  Her voice is pretty good too.

Here's another. Covering Radiohead's mediocre song Creep with Post Modern Jukebox and making it something special.

Just the way she handles a mic stand should be "X" rated... or it could just be my distinctly twisted mind.

This is pretty cool.  A good "cover" of an old tune.
