Saw NRBQ at Antone's in Austin on Friday, May 18.  Really outstanding show!

I was a bit hesitant to go at first, because only one original member of the band, keyboardist Terry Adams, is still with them.  Terry is a survivor of throat cancer, so I wasn't even sure if he would be singing.  He was, as if it had never happened.

They kicked butt, greatly exceeding expectations.  Great fun, with a variety of musical styles (including at least three Thelonious Monk tunes), and very high energy.  The lead guitarist is outstanding, and Terry Adams preserves the spirit of the original NRBQ through his influence.

Saw UK with Eddie Jobson, John Wetton and Terry Bozzio on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

They kicked some major butt.

Jobson still has his major keyboard chops, Wetton's voice sounded pretty damn good considering he was still getting over a cold, and Bozzio is still (at 62) a monster drummer.

They ran through some of their most complex pieces with relative ease. So great to see musicians of that caliber play some pretty challenging stuff.

Tonite was a blast from the musical past for me!  I just got back from seeing Night Ranger at a local festival.  Although they were missing Jeff Watson and their original keyboard player they were still really good.  Watching them play I was struck by their professionalism; you could tell they've probably played thousands of shows together.  And even so, they still "get up" to play smaller gigs like this one.  It's probably been three or four years since I've been to a live show, too long!

Got to see Steve Winwood Tuesday at Wolf Trap.  Lightening and heavy downpour with water vapor drifting even into the center section as a backdrop, he put on a good show.  It was not a good night to be on the Lawn.  His voice was more strained showing the age but still hit all the notes.  Good times except for the 40+ washed up cupid dolls "dancing" in front of me acting like they were the center of the universe and still 18.  Gag!  I don't know how I liked them when I was in the teens....   :duh:

Well, I haven't been, yet; but, my girlfriend and I are going to see The Wall at Wrigley Field this Friday.  It will be the second time I get to see it.  Saw the show in KC in October 2010.  It was amazing!  I am very much looking forward to this one, too!

Wife and friends caught Kelly McFarling and Con Brio at Grocery in Atlanta last week. Definitely a triple "T" event: Terrific show; Terrific performers; Terrific venue.

Kelly has a powerful and wonderful voice and is clearly a talented writer as well. Add in her beautiful face and rockin' bod ... what a package!

I am obssessed with Con Brio's CD (above). Updated, funky, organic, groove-laden tracks from beginning to end.  And live they were even better. More opportunity to stretch out pushes them even higher on my "must see live" list. A force not to be ignored.

Finally saw Roger Waters performs THE WALL last week in Indianapolis. Might be the best show I've ever seen. Just because of the size and scope of the production.

Incredible.

Ringo Starr and His All-Star Band at Northern Quest Casino, Spokane WA. The concert was great fun. Ringo looks great for 72 or 3. The All Stars were Todd Rundgren; Gregg Rolie (Santana & Journey); Richard Page (Mr. Mister); Steve Lukather (Toto); Mark Rivera (Foreigner among others) and Gregg Bissonette (Ringo's regular drummer). Two hour show with a mix of Beatles, Ringo solo efforts and 3 songs made famous by each All Star. I decided to go about 30 minutes before the show started. Arrive right before showtime and asked for the best available seat. Turns out a Tribal Council member had turn some unused tickets in about 15 minutes earlier and the were on the first row, center section. Timing is everything 8) :thumb:

Procul Harum and Yes on Wednesday night.  It's strange seeing Gary Brooker as silver haired old man (then again, my hair lost it's color too), but his pipes are still fairly strong.  His bass player is Matt Pegg, son of Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention.  The crowd realy didn't react to much of the material until they finished with Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador.  Overall, the levels were a little high, but the sound was good, as wasthe band.

I haven't seen Yes since Anderson and Wakeman left, so it's been a while.  Downes did a good job, although he's no Wakeman, and the new vocalist was pretty good.  He has Anderson's old range, but he might be a little too slick, I noticed it in his phrasing on Heart of the Sunrise.  What suprised me was how Steve Howe almost took over as frontman.  Every time I've seen him in the past (this was my 4th Yes concert) he was pretty quiet, letting Jon take care of the "stuff".  This time Steve did much of the talking and often danced around on stage.  I also never realized just how small a Rickenbacker looks in Chris' hands.  It's almost a toy to him.

Chris Isaak at the Fox Theatre in Spokane WA. A great show. Chris is a superb entertainer. He played several songs from the new album which covers songs by Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis.
