What next after the Signstek/Muse 2704 dac?
« on: 10 Dec 2017, 02:12 pm »
I've got a Signstek and it was a revelation but I've got a few quid to spend potentially and I fancy something a bit better.

Budget is below £100/$130 and it has to be usb input with a headphone output, and it will be driving 32ohm AKG cans. Portability is not an issue as it's fastened to my laptop.
I'll admit I have a soft spot for the "oddness" of some of the Chinese stuff, but I do worry about the import duties to the UK. I like a wide soundstage with a forward balance in my audio equipment and I listen to rock such as Black Stone Cherry and AC/DC.
I am not averse if absolutely necessary to buying a readymade dac board and putting it in its own box myself.

Let's have 'em!

I'm enjoying the $99 Topping D30 I bought from Massdrop. It's every bit the equal of my more expensive Schiit Modi MB.

In the end I opted for the Sabaj Da2. Apart from my surprise at how tiny the damned thing is on first listening it sounds pretty good!

Comes with nice large clocks. You should be able to swap those out easy with your skills. Don't even have to go expensive. Fox Xpressos are only a couple bucks. I'd put that as a must do.
