Other users suggested that HDTracks was relying on a clunky
download tool, but I have no idea if that's true or not.

HDTracks has a great product that they insist on saddling with a
ridiculous, Rube Goldberg inspired download procedure. I seem to
recall that at one point early on they relied upon open industry
standard download procedures to access the material customers had
paid for. At least I was able, as a linux user, to easily download
and play their music on my linux box. I was very impressed with the
quality and bought several titles and, where available, individual
tracks. They were all outstanding. I planned to buy a lot more. Then
at some point they inserted this insane, convoluted download
procedure, that SOMETIMES actually worked on linux. Currently it
doesn't.

This is a company with a great product that is maddeningly
frustrating for linux users (we're generally a fairly technically
sophisticated bunch). Barring some major change in their download
procedures and/or attitude towards linux users I'm afraid I won't
be doing any more business with them.

This is really a shame, given the high quality of the product, and
even more so considering that one time these barriers to access did
not exist. I have even heard rumours that a native java version
existed internally at JRiver (their download manager provider) that
ran natively on linux.

Too bad.

This thread is fine.  No reason to start another one with the exact same issues!  I removed the redundant one.

Thanks, Ted. Love the firesign quote. Indeed we are!

A few months ago, I bought some HDTracks files.  I could not understand how to download them and set them up for playback.  Instructions were not clear to this non-computer audiophile.  I traded a couple of email rounds wth HDT, but could not understand their cryptic answers.  I gave up and considered my money lost. :(

I'd email them again and get my money back. I've done that in the past.
