I'm fighting to find specs over the web and Aerial doesn't reply to my email.
So does anyone know something about those?

Model 7, the only thing I know

Thanks

I asked Michael Kelly, the designer, about these and he wrote back, "This is a Model 7A 8" 2-way floor-standing speaker sold in the mid-1990's. I don't remember price or have specs."

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

There is a Thiel x Aerial review here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.audio.opinion/2fOzzwZcJvU
The Aerial Acoustics...The AAM7's were setup in what I call "headphone"
position--pointed straight at the listener, no more
than 8' away.  The first thing I noticed was the
very nice stereo image.  My guess is that these things
are built pretty solidly.  Lots of MDF board to damp
out any resonances.  The Aerial Acoustics MODEL 7
is a two-way, 9" mag frame woofer with a laminated cone
1" titanium dome tweeter, 80-90lbs per speaker.

I listened for a while and was fairly impressed, but
there were some things I started to pick up on that
bugged me.  It appeared that vocals were not jumping
out as I might expect.  Later, on the Polytown album,
I started noticing that Terry Bozzio's percussion crashes
and bell hits were muted.

(The lesson here is: take in music that you are familiar
with.  I never would have noticed this stuff if I had
not been familiar with the instruments on the album, and
known what they sound like.  I've heard Terry's kit live:
I know what his instrument sounds like.  The highs were
being cut off.)

Now get this: then the guys in the store say, well you
know, these are the older model, and the newer model has
the titanium dome tweeter.  (Thanks for telling me after
I listen to these suckers for 45 minutes!)  So they hooked
up the new model, and the highs were repaired on the new
model.  But it was too late by then.  I was all "listened out",
and couldn't be very critical anymore.

So overall, I would give them a thumbs up for stereo image
and pretty good bass response for a two-way.  But the highs
are something you are going to have to decide on.  I'm
kind of undecided about that, especially due to the late switcheroo
performed at the end of the testing.  It should be fairly obvious,
if you are paying attention, whether you are hearing the "old"
model, because you will notice right away that the cymbal hits
and bell rings just don't have the juice that they do in real-life.
Very musical nevertheless.

Well I got new details ;-)
This pair is NOS (boxes just opened for pics).
I guess a driver who never play during 20 years needs a warm-up, but do you think it's still OK?

A detail I really liked, closed enclosure.....
