Best BANG for the buck cartridge?
« on: 25 Nov 2015, 10:45 pm »
I have a Stanton 500 cart on my vintage SL1200, looking to possibly upgrade to the Shure M97Xe or the Ortofon Red, kinda leaning towards the Ortofon, however, any other suggestion?  From my research the Ortofon Red is an amazing buy, but some complain about it being too bright sounding    Below the $200 up to $250 would be nice but if I can keep the budget below $200 that would be even sweeter, thanks!~

Well, for what it's worth, I recently bought an Ortofon 2M Red to insert in an LP12/Ittok LV 2/Hagerman Bugle
chain.
For small $$'s, I'm pleased with what I'm hearing.

Happy hunting.

I'm a moving coil fan myself.  Use a Hagerman phono pre, too, with a first generation Koetsu.  I would suggest having a look at a Shelter 901 Mk II.  Big bucks but big bang.
