Ok to leave record on Platter
« on: 4 Mar 2015, 03:31 pm »
Is it ok to leave a record on your Turntable platter for 1 week or 2 weeks?

Will it warp at all?

Is this not a good practice?

thank you

I always leave a record on the platter... my copy of the Ray Connif Singer's Greatest Hits.  Does a good job of keeping catching the dust.

I also always leave a record on the platter.  Mine is an old Mono record which was in pretty bad shape.  As previously stated, sure does collect a lot of dust.  This is dust that is now 'not' on the platter.  I have even washed this old record a few times.  Not to play, but because I was embarrassed at how dirty it was looking!  (grin)

I also keep the last record on the platter when finished with my session.  I do brush it before putting it away.  I use Herbies Way Excellent mat and it is borderline sticky which gives the record great contact adhesion and a fuller sound.  The material in the mat however really attracts and holds dust.  Even with keeping a record on the mat I still use a sticky rolling lint brush to clean the mat every so often.  Any particles on the underside of the record are transferred to the mat.  Without the record being there between listening sessions and no dust cover I would be cleaning the mat far more often.

My old Thorens has a hinged cover which helps limit the dust. I also use a thin flexible plastic record sized disc that I think came with my Herbie's Way Excellent mat. Maybe once in a blue moon a record overnight, but that's it.
