Old Style Tubes Cornet
« on: 27 Apr 2011, 12:34 pm »
Hi all!
this is my first post here...

i am very happy of my Cornet Octal (http://doityourselfaudio.blogspot.com/2011/02/cornet-octal-phono-stage.html)

i wish try to build a more exotic version using older tubes like 75 (or 2A6) in place of 6Sl7 and 76 (or 56) in place of 6SN7.

as the 75 seems to be like half 12ax7 and 76 is very similar to half 6sn7/12au7, could i use the same component values of ''noval cornet'' ?

thanks!

15uF GE oil caps, no electrolytics in the power supply.

For the 6SN7 - 6F8G (dual triode, same as 6SN7 with one top cap), or 2C22 (single triode same as 6SN7 but with two top caps).

I take it the black covers are oil filled capacitors (motor run).  Very nice.

Nice looking build.

I have read where folks go through a lot of 56/76 examples, trying to find ones quiet enough for use in a linestage.  I would expect it would be even worse in a phono stage.  Maybe I have been lucky with the 76's I have on hand - I found some nice Tung-Sol's from 1944 - they're quiet.
