Where can I find a re-foam kit for the 15" passive radiator?

Also, who manufactured this PR? (out of curiosity)
Thanks

I am not aware of any kit for the VMPS PR, but I would think they exist.

Brian assembled the stock PR's at his factory

We have the Ultra-Mega PR's (from an OEM) that most find play lower and louder

If it is helpful, I have one (1) NOS 15" Passive Radiator for $39 plus shipping.

If you are in the Dallas area, Freeman-Tuell Speaker Service does a good job of re-foaming, and has reasonable prices.  I had the  15" PRs in my subwoofers done last year, and am about to take the 12" from my Tower II speakers in.

Hi,

Is that passive still available?  I have the original sub kit x 2 and both passives need refoamed.  I found this from another post on the site, a gent said this worked for him: http://www.simplyspeakers.com/speaker-foam-edge-repair-kit-fsk-15f.html  What do you think?

Thanks,

Jeff

Simply Speakers provides very good kits for refoaming.  I've used their product for multiple woofer refoams without issue.  Plus, they sell single pieces of foam, as well as pairs, for a 15" speaker:

http://www.simplyspeakers.com/Standard-Foam-Kits_c_118-1-3.html

Parts Express also has a 15" kit:

Be sure to measure your woofer frame's inner and outer diameter, to ensure the foam is the correct size, before ordering.  Then, refoaming is fairly easy.  Just Time and Patience!    :D

Good luck!

Brax

I would pick up that PR from John before fixing the old one. I replaced the PR in my Larger subwoofer and couldn't be happier. The old one would bottom once in awhile while I have never bottom the new one.

Thanks Brax and Stimpy!  Hopefully, the PR is available, I would buy it!  I did order the re-foam kit though.  Sean Ryan at Simply Speakers responded right away to my questions and was very nice while offering his support, if needed, for future help.

I have been living with this for so long I would love to be in a position to bottom again!  And yes, I know it serves as a analogy for so many other things.....

What is the best interconnect cable you guys suggest for internal wire?  12awg?  Back in the day, the guy that convinced me to buy the pair of Original sub kits also convinced me a solid core wire was the way to go for a sub.  I bought 10 awg from Home Depot and soldered those in.  Should I use the refoam to change that?

Suggestions not only welcomed, I am going to guess some of you will spit coffee when you read this and will let me know what you think!

I wonder if this surround might not work better for the passive radiator.  It's a 'large roll' surround.  This makes me think that it might allow for longer cone excursion, before bottoming out.  Though, the passive's spider might be what determines cone excursion?  But, either way, it's only $11.95, so it's not like you're out much dough, if you try it!

I am messaging Sean at SS now for his take.  Will let you know what he recommends.

Sean said he carries that one as well but it does not fit the VMPS cone.

If you go on Ebay and look around you can find some that will fit. I bought a set for Cerwin Vega woofers and did mine-they were also 15" passives. Alot of the sellers will give dimensions so you can find the correct set.

Hi Rick,

Yes, while repairing and or cheap replacements save $$, none come close to the UltraMega PR that Brian was just starting to use.

Hi John,

Is that the 15" size that you had mentioned with one remaining?

Sorry, the NOS PR mentioned above is gone.
