If the wait does kill you, would you consider leaving the speakers to me in your will?

You really can't compare the two.  The Encores had much better electronics.  $15,000 Wells integrated amp and Exogal Dac and power supply.

Actually, the Encores were being driven by the $3500 Wells Majestic integrated.  The Exotica 3's were driven by the larger Wells amp.

I have some production on my S3E order (23%).  The cabinets are glued up.

Sounds like ours are being built side by side.  Mine are at the same step in production.  What veneer did you choose?

I chose curly walnut veneer with dark walnut dye & satin finish (retro look)

I'm sorry for the delay, I didn't realize you had asked that question.  Yes, I decided to go with the Pau Ferro Rosewood.  I really agonized over the decision but I kept coming back to the rosewood.

that's probably my favorite veneer as well. Can't wait to see  how they turn out. I'm hoping to be able to purchase a pair in the same veneer next year.

I wonder if Jim could build the speaker so they could have 2 grill options. One as a full length grill that's already included and then another that only covers the bass driver. That way you can see the RAAL, midrange and wonderful veneer more but protect and cover the lower bass driver. Could both be done on the same speaker? Something like a round cover similar to what's on the SS8's on their sides.

I suspect all you need to do is ask Jim!

It certainly could.  However, it would be a "custom" project as we would have to design the second grill and install magnets for them (there are only two magnets under the woofer, so more magnets would be required).  With the extra magnets, grills and engineering, it would be about $120.

Thanks! That's good to know and well worth $120 in my opinion so one could see more of the beautiful cabinet work and finish.
