It's shocking how little love Radiohead or contemporary good music is received by audiophiles. So far, according to metacritic this is the second best album of the year. Not that it means anything.

I would bet there are MANY Radiohead fans here and over on Audiogon. I have not seen a thread over there either. Weird.  Some threads don't  catch on.
Are you super impressed with the album.  I have only heard those two singles and love em ! :thumb: I will be buying the digital file through Amazon .
I also loved King of Limbs !!

I'm a massive radiohead fan, some songs on this album are fantastic (like the first two tracks) but overall it's not growing on me and getting better with each listen like previous albums have. There are still about two songs that I just can't get into at all.

I did get the deluxe vinyl edition (of course) and it came with the .wav version of the album. Most songs have almost no dynamic compression, which is fantastic because they had been going along with the increased loudness trend since amnesiac, and the engineering and production are first-rate. Absolutely incredible sonics & texturing, so even if you don't particularly like the band it's worth picking up.

Not entirely bad for a Top 40 band, it remember me abit Atom Heart Mother Suite from 1970 but not this good.

I bought the lossless wav version within minutes it became available on WASTE. It has been 4 days since the album has been out. Way too little time to evaluate any Radiohead album. Kid A was one of the most hated album when it came out. Some influential music critics rated it harshly, took better part of a year to re-review the album and declare it a breakthrough.

Having said that, chances are some songs you will never get used to. However, I will say this - there are some of my favorite Radiohead songs that I got it after years and many fans will echo the same experience. Some of my early favorites from the album: Ful Stop, Identikit, Present Tense

Radiohead might be better received if they weren't hyped into being the "Just like Pink Floyd" hype. I have OK Computer, and while its "OK", it certainly is not a "master" work of art.

While I love Pink Floyd to death, its an insult saying them 'Just like Pink Floyd', and I honestly don't believe anyone who has been following Radiohead till now and aware how their music style has progressed, they sound NOTHING like Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd has been an influence in their early albums for sure among many other artists. Perhaps, it was the wrong idea to listen to them expecting to sound like Pink Floyd. They are not in anyway "Psychedelic" in the sense that Pink Floyd is. Tame Impala (except their latest album) or Flaming Lips is some example artist if you want to listen to some Pink Floyd alike modern good music.

You may only find it ok but "Ok Computer" is heralded as one of the best album in modern music, so is "Kid A".

I think Radiohead is OK.  I've not really been impressed by anything they've done.  I have The Bends and OK Computer.  I didn't like them well enough to buy anymore.  Is "Kid A" better than these?

ctviggen,   "Radiohead is OK" ?? :nono: :nono: :o :o REALLY?
I don't see how any music lover would not appreciate this band as the most innovative, influential,  incredible, powerful, band in the last 30 years. Many great music critics have stated this opinion. Sure, just their opinions.  I know everyone has different taste, but this is RADIOHEAD. Get on board man! (kidding, sort of)  There music is slightly discordant ,but it still flows into perfection. I'm not into too many bands that mix sample sounds, weird noises , into their music, but Radiohead has innovated the technique , and perfected it.
Kid A is a STELLAR album! Kind of a concept album , relaxing Pink Floydish, I'd say.
Other albums I think are beyond great are:  Hail To the Thief (2003) In Rainbows (2007) and King of Limbs (2011)
I would also highly recommend Tom Yorke's album from 2006, called, Eraser. To me it's as great as a Radiohead album.

Another huge Radiohead fan here. The new album is really good, though I was hoping for something more upbeat. Mellow Radiohead is better than no Radiohead!

My favorite tune right now is The Numbers.

All these talk about Pink Floyd, I honestly don't get it where all the similarities and expectations are coming from. Radiohead sound nothing like Pink Floyd (then again as a whole they don't sound like any other artists). They never did. In fact, apart from Jonny Greenwood, no one in Radiohead even likes Pink Floyd. In fact, they do not like progressive rock to begin with. Radiohead stopped being a rock band while ago. They are more like an experimental art 'rock' band. It kinda blows my mind, given how their music is not 'accessible' (esp if you compare to most artists from classic rock era let alone the contemporary music) and still manage to sell 30 million albums.

https://www.reddit.com/r/radiohead/comments/3h4tn6/nailing_down_radioheads_major_influences_by_album/cu4i4em

In terms of musician influences, it is as diverse from The Beatles, Miles Davis, Neil Young, Talking Heads, Brian Eno, Joy Division, The Pixies, R.E.M to  Can, Aphex Twin, Bjork, Mingus, Neu!, Fela Kuti, Penderecki, Messiaen and many many more.

The latest album has a lot of classical music influence. And Radiohead has also inspired contemporary classical artists like Steve Reich.

According to some music guru, many years from now, Radiohead music theory would be studied  in school. In fact, I know there has been few PHD awarded where the main dissertation was on Radiohead works. I will give two example:
Phd on music theory - University of Michigan: https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/86444/neadam_1.pdf
On philosophy of Radiohead - University of Texas, Austin: https://www.lib.utexas.edu/etd/d/2005/lettsm76116/lettsm76116.pdf

And just for the kicks, one interesting music theory article on Pyramid Song: http://www.mtosmt.org/issues/mto.13.19.1/mto.13.19.1.hesselink.html

While being a die-hard Radiohead fan since the Pablo Honey days, I also get why the band can be so polarizing and why many would dislike them or at least find them un-exceptional. I think a lot has to do with the fact that they chose to get heavily into electronica.

The thing is though - almost all their songs, even their heavily processed ones - are based on solid fundamentals and are just really nice compositions all around.

To get a different appreciation of Radiohead, try listening to their acoustic numbers and/or acoustic covers of their songs. Oh and another thing that stands out is how good they are at live performances and at live acoustic renditions.

Listen to Mike Masse's cover of Paranoid Android for example. The number of transitions, the difficultly of the song, and the overall composition is among the best, in my humble opinion. It is a testament to Mike Masse's skill that he is able to do a near-perfect cover of this really difficult song, and even make it sound easy to cover.

@asliarun great point about their live performance. I have been to many live concerts. I have spent more money on live music than on my audiophile gears. But no other live performance has been as satisfying as Radiohead. Once you see them live, you grow a new deeper appreciation of their music.

Radiohead is amazing and ok computer is a masterpiece imo but that said i dont get why people get so worked up about them. Especially since they dont care either way. Thats why i wait at least several months before listening to their new albums. This way i can avoid the hype and jibber jabber.
