I'll have to check that out. I don't use IEM's much, but I think these would be great for travel if they provide decent noise blocking from ambient noise.

The volume control is handy if someone starts talking to you, they isolate pretty well for me as I am getting a great seal with them. I just took a walk and listened as seriously as I could and could really find anything to complain about. Hopefully you guys get the same or similar results....very cool...please let me know how they sound to you!!

These Senns are up again at Newegg for $19.95 with the code.....I already have a pair and if I had the cash here at months end I'd buy another set as backup because these have become my favorite IEMS!

These Digitech phones are said to be clones of Fischer FA-003 ($179). Said to be a nice sounding pr. This price is export from Australia + shipping.

I don't know what the deal is. I assumed that Jaycar has some kind of incentive to export at a cheaper price. Some Brit companies have cheaper export prices, I figured it is government sponsored, although I really don't know. With shipping the price is about the same. Still said to be an excellent value.

With the Brits it's probably a tax thing. We have tax too, but it's only 10% so the 35% off on the international site seems a bit... off. Maybe there's something about tax I don't know. You know, that's probably a good explanation

Tyll's measurement shows something odd going on around 300 Hz. I wonder if they have them in the store, maybe I should go there with my laptop.

Amazon GOLD Box deals features a different headphone, IEM etc... like every few hours today. I ran through all the times and saw about 4 sets I'll be interested in depending on the sale price. Check it out through out the day or look at each time slot....there are some very nice units being sold all during the day. The all day sale also features a nice set of V-Moda's!!!!

I finally pulled the trigger on these Pro Monitors from Jaycar. Shipping is $20 to the US so final price is $70 and it takes 10 days to get here.

The phones look like they'd be tight/small, but the thick pads make them some of the most comfortable I've tried. They don't seem to need much break-in. The SQ is very good with some emphasis on the mids and a slight amount on the highs. This makes the bass a little underplayed.

I had a couple of pieces of round earcup foam that cover drivers. I think they came with a set of Beyer earpads. I slipped these over the drivers and they're held in place by the pads. Worked like a charm - now they sound near perfect. There's a dip in response at 300Hz. I thought I could hear it at first, but now the upper bass sounds good and the deep bass is big and slightly loose. Great for movies without being bass heavy all the time. With music it sounds like good bass.
I don't know if the sound will change further and I'll have to remove the foam, but for now I'm very happy with the performance. BTW, they come with an extra set of pads and a semi-hard case.

I'm very pleased with my budget phones. With only a tiny bit of modding the Pro Monitors (also sold as an ~~Einstein~~ model) and the Panasonic RP-HTF600 are really quite good. Neither required the extensive mods like the T50RP. That extra layer of foam over the drivers on the Pros is around 1mm thick and could probably be duplicated with 2 layers of grill cloth. The HTF600 ($30 bargain) has a long break-in, around 50hrs, and is amazing for little money. I have Beyer velour pads on there which is a little thinner than stock and brings the treble up a notch. That makes them sound slightly more detailed, but it's subtle and I'm not sure it's worth it. I don't use these for critical listening anyway. I modded them before they were fully broken in and I wound up putting them back to stock configuration except for a small bit of Dacron speaker stuffing. 50mm drivers give good bass and response seems flat, but they're not as comfortable as the Pro Monitors.

I learned about the HTF600 on Head Fi and they proved to be a great buy. Another couple of sets that look promising are Taskar from China. People rave about 2 models, the 2050 is open and said to be very close to the 990 Premium.
