Speaker cable for Sapphire XL and Force XL
« on: 30 Sep 2011, 11:31 pm »
Hello~  :)

I have had ACI Sapphire XL (white pearl) for about 5 years now which I enjoy in my small room.  I wanted to add more bass, so I just bought a used pair of ACI Force XL (piano black) and will pick them up next week.

I have DH Labs T-14 between Primaluna Prologue 2 and the Sapphire XL.

Now my question is...
Do I used a higher quality speaker cable for Sapphire XL or Force XL?  I just bought a pair of DH Labs Q10.  I was plannig to use the Q10 for Sapphire XL's and move the T-14 for Force XL's.  Am I doing it right?

Thank you~  :D

Hi,
I really like the Q-10 with the Sapphires! (And all other speakers I've tried it on!)

Are your Sapphires bi-wireable?

IIRC all versions of the Force have an integral plate amp, ie:speaker wiring is internal. It never hurts to use a high quality interconnect to the sub though.

Thank you for your reply.

My Sapphires are not bi-wireable.
So, Q-10 for the Sapphires & T-14 for the Force,
not Q-10 for the Force & T-14 for the Sapphires.
Right?  :|

Thank you  :)

I would definitely use the Q-10 on the Sapphires.

How do you plan on setting up the pair of Forces'? There are different ways.

see; http://www.audioc.com/library1/subsetup.htm and http://www.audioc.com/library1/subsetupft.htm

There's also info on the Primaluna site.

Let us know,

Okay, Q-10 for the Sapphires.  :D

I will use ACI's recommended hook up option #1.
T-14 from Prologue 2 to Force with speaker level converter.

One more question...
Should I cover the Sapphire's rear port with a foam plug or let them roll off naturally?

Thank you!

I would start with them unplugged, this gives a 24db/octave rolloff. Plugging them changes it to 12 db/oct.  Although it never hurts to try it both ways with your system, in your room, etc. Have you listened with them plugged vs unplugged? Set them they that sounds best to you. I've never tried the plugs on mine, I like them ported!
The crossover controls on the sub work together for whatever slope you need.
Optimizing subs takes a little trial and error, but well worth it once they're dialed in!
The subs will make the Sapphires a killer- full range system. Not that they're far from it though.
